The Air Quality Index (AQI) breached the ‘severe plus’ mark on Sunday, prompting the announcement of anti-pollution restrictions under GRAP-IV, to come into effect starting tomorrow.
The restrictions were announced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which also asked the Delhi government to take a call on running of vehicles on an “odd and even” basis, and switching classes 6-9 to online mode.
Apart from entry of trucks and running of BS-IV vehicles on roads, many bans and restrictions will be imposed under GRAP-IV. Here are all your questions answered:
Although the CAQM has not ordered employees to work from home, it has suggested the Delhi government to allow government, municipal and private offices to work on 50 per cent strength and the rest to work from home. It has also requested the Centre to allow central government employees to work from home.
Under the GRAP IV measures, the CAQM has recommended conducting online classes for students of Class 6 to 11. Notably, under the GRAP III measures, online classes are being held for students up to Class 5. It has also recommended the closure of colleges as well.
The BS-IV and below-diesel operated Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) in Delhi, have been banned under the GRAP-IV measures.
After the implementation of GRAP IV, trucks coming from other states won’t be allowed to enter Delhi, except for CNG and electric trucks, and trucks carrying essential commodities. Light Commercial Vehicles, which are registered outside Delhi are also banned from entering Delhi.
All construction work in the capital region, including construction of highways, roads and pipelines, has been banned under the GRAP IV measures.
